St George & Bear Claw Poppy

May 14

We left Lake Mead about 5 am to try to beat the Las Vegas traffic.  Ended up in a little town just past Mesquite when the kids woke up. They were still exhausted from yesterday so we decided to have a mellow day.

We had some much needed rest while the kids burned off some steam at the park.  Brian and I couldn’t believe how sore our legs were from the hike the day before (see last post). 20180514_075803_28475715178_o.jpg

We arrived in St. George around noon and parked for a quick lunch.  The kids were exhausted so we decided to take them to a movie matinee.  Utah is the BEST because they have movie theaters where you can see movies for just $1 per person!! Dollar theaters should be everywhere.  We had the whole theater to ourselves at 2 pm and saw Sherlock Gnomes.  Very clever…

St George late in the afternoon was HOT.  The kids were MORE than ready to find a way to cool down. So what did we do?  Look for water AND found an awesome splash pad right on MAIN STREET!

The water was ice cold shooting up out of the ground and felt ridiculously refreshing.  At one point Brian just rolled into the center and didn’t move until he was frozen.

In the back section was a beautiful rock waterfall the kids could play on. The water flowed down into a stream that the kids could lay, jump and play in!

There were a few fun statues there as well.  This one quickly became Fletcher’s enemy as he was NOT sharing his hose. HAHA

We had a blast helping them block off arteries of the river to create big pools of water, etc.

Afterward we enjoyed some lunch in the RV just down the road. During which we found out that Riley was a lettuce loving hippie.

Before nightfall we took a ride on my favorite trail in St George, Bear Claw Poppy.  This trail was twice as fun on an ebike! I remember it being my favorite…but now it’s on the top of the charts  So smooth, flowy and endless trail options!

We decided to take the kids and discover a few off shoots. They had fun climbing the rocks in the wash.

Brian got hit with a flat tire that signaled a good time to turn about.  Riley was so cute and jumped right in to offer her assistance. t.

Our joke is that Utah’s state symbol is the orange cone.  They seem to ALWAYS be working on the freeways, and there is only one, so we’re not sure why?  Seeing a big orange cone in the middle of the desert on a trail made us laugh for quite some time!

Turns out, that turtles look a lot like rocks out here as well.  We had to carefully dodge them as we go! Can you see it??

I love this trail.  I’m pretty sure we will be back…with more camera skills!  So fun!
