April 22nd
We all woke up in a type of sleepless hangover from our caffeine overdose the day before. No one had a good nights rest. Everyone was cranky. And today was Brian’s birthday! What a great treat for dad, sour grapes for a family. AHHH!
Since we were in rough shape we thought our best gift to him was some alone time. Far away from us. Brian found a mountain biking trail, Hualapai Mountains Gold King Mansion Ride, that was too technical for the rest of us, so we let him do it alone.
We parked at Hualapai Mountain Resort and played with the cut out frames while Brian got his bike charged and ready to ride the 29 mile loop.

After Brian took off, I tried to get the kids to go on a walk and force the tired into them so we could all catch up with a good nap when Brian got back. The hike lasted about one solid block, but was worth it. 10 minutes later we were back in the RV and both kids were passed out hard. Sadly Brian came back about 10 minutes after that. His bike didn’t have enough battery to finish the whole ride so he had to turn around. (one downfall to Ebikes….). So we packed up and headed out of dodge so the kids could sleep while we drove.
Pretty quickly we came up on Moabi Regional Park at the boarder of Arizona and California. It sits right on the Colorado River! And what makes a Phillips family’s grumpy face dissolve better than anything?? WATER! We parked, changed and ran to the river for a good swim session.

The water was ridiculously COLD!! But the air was nearing 80 and made it quite refreshing. I grew up going to Lake Powell each summer vacation and if you’ve been there you know the water has a distinct smell. I had completely forgotten that smell until we jumped in this river! It was the EXACT SAME!! Ahh….I’d missed you Colorado River!
After an hour or so of washing off our frowns we hopped back in the Maj, happy again. Back on the road for our final destination of the night.

Hello Mormon Rocks Interpretive Trail! If you ever need to stretch your legs during a drive through the Cajon Pass, this is worth a quick stop. We got there just as the sun was going down and decided to boondock just east of the trail.

Bright and early the next morning we decided to head out and explore. Oddly, we decided to hike the east side of the freeway instead. The kids found lots of giant boulders to slide down, hide in and jump over.

Their favorite part though? Watching the trains go by. They would sit together in a hollow and pat their legs chanting “train, Train, TRAIN” until one would come. Let me tell you…..those were LONG trains!!

We spent most of the afternoon here, enjoying natures jungle gym. I love these random finds! Where to next Google?
