Phoenix, Calveras & Oceanside Harbor

This is a lot….and also not a lot for one week!

April 5th

The Maj was in need of a break, so we left her home and set out for a quick weekend in Phoenix to see one of our favorite friends tie the knot!  Auntie Bizzle, as our kids call her!  The tight space for traveling was a bit harder to get used to again, but the speed was amazing!  Poor Maj has a hard time over 60 mph….

While Brian was driving I had to come up with a way to satisfy two poor, bored to death children.  What did I have on hand? My phone, a Ziploc bag, some string and 2 head phones.  I tied the string between the headrests, strung it through the Ziploc bag and put my phone inside the bag. Voila!  A homemade TV for the kiddos.  TA DA!  Who says you can’t make what you need with what you find in your purse.

I will note, however that these little kid earphones have been a life saver.  Thank you TARGET!  The kids can change the volume themselves by twisting the earpiece.  But also, they can customize what they look like with little pog (yes, I just reference POGS) like pieces to put on the earpiece. That way you know whose are whose and no one fights. Or at least we hope they won’t.

Once in Arizona we felt like we were living on the face of the sun!  Weak Californians that we are, were melting in the stifling 85 degree weather.  Luckily our friends let us crash at their home and they had the BEST pool set up.

The wedding was beautiful….and of course I have little to no photos’ of it.  Maybe that will be for another blog!

Two days later we were back in the Maj and parked at the Harbor for a week while Brian finished up his last week at the office, and our house was being rented out.  We’d play in the sun all day, just the three of us.20180410_160656_41652252631_o.jpg

Then puzzle all night before dark when Brian got off.  The kids were always so excited to see Brian each night.  They kept begging to find out when we were going on a REAL adventure….. Oh so soon my babies!  Oh so soon.

To help satisfy our adventure craving we took a full day to ride and explore Calvera Lake in Carlsbad.  There are SOOO many trails to ride out here.  California seems to want to shut down all the riding in San Diego and we pray this one won’t be shut down next.

Brian is such a good teacher. Riley would ride on his bike and they would work on letters and spelling. By the time we got to the main peak we took a quick water and snack break while Brian wrote out how to spell “bird” and “bush” so Riley could see them.  Then every time we would ride she would have to spell those when she saw them.  Her new favorite way to spell bird is by adding a “ca-cawwww” at the end. Funny girl.

Afterword we let the kids ride around on their bikes to work up their legs.  We hung around the lake to throw rocks and sticks (Fletcher’s MOST favorite activity anywhere we go).20180401_122437_26364203907_o.jpg

Doing some renovations to the Maj  while we are in our house for our final week!  Time to hit the road for REAL jack!
